What's so special about "spawning an editor"? If you've configured your
system to use some lightweight terminal editor then you write the commit
command, press enter, write the commit message, press keys to save and
to exit the editor. I don't see how that would make the commit
noticeably harder. It might even be fewer keypresses (editor's save +
exit vs ' ', '-', 'm', ' ', '"', '"'.
