I send mail only because cvs is down and cannot commit the very
trivial workaround myself.
Not intended to start flame war of another trivial subject.

1. It does also say why it needs it - GUI. Mind you that mingw/win32
is not native utf8 system.

2. mingw is build environment. The command environment msys is
separate thing. Don't ask me... I'm not the one invented it :|

3. I'm well aware of this. But actually configure did detect libiconv,
so this is just your assumption on #2.
I may be wrong but I think you are still able to play subtitles using
-subfont-encoding, as long as the font know that codetable.

4. Haven't I said the same?
