No, there is no option to parse binary files, i checked, believe me.
Also those long options are something gnu specific, other unices
dont have that.
Maybe your grep on solaris is actualy a gnu grep (i know that
some people replace some of the file utils), but standard
solaris grep doesn't like binaries.
