On the face of it, I'll admit that I don't see much.

Although I'll note that I'm not sure he didn't mean "there's no sane way
to implement it".

Actually, by making there be a context in which extension is relevant to
behaviour, it *does* support the "extension matters" paradigm. Whether
this is a bad enough thing to make the rest of it not worthwhile is
another question, but...
