I don't understand how updating the Makefile via CVS has any practical
effect, since accordng to my understanding the file is re-created from
zero every time configure is run anyway. (If this is not the case, then
I don't see how configure's output - CFLAGS and the like - gets into the
Makefile.) Wouldn't it be it necessary to implement any desired Makefile
change as a modification to configure?
