That's what I assumed first, but I tried it with an avi file and there
are apparently still problems:

Playing /var/tmp/GoneNutty.avi
AVI file format detected.
AVI_NI: No video stream found.
Falling back on trying to parse playlist /var/tmp/GoneNutty.avi...

Does not currently work for me with avi and mpg movies.

Oh, 0_90 stuff?  Sounds like a very simple option that should be there
for completeness.
