[MEncoder-users] mencoder asks to "use -absf aac_adtstoasc" - but -absf is an unknown option

To elaborate:
MEncoder is not an actively maintained application for 
several years, if you need bitstream filters, you will 
probably have to implement using FFmpeg's filters in 
MEncoder yourself.
FFmpeg is actively maintained, it is supposed to 
support all filters that you are using natively, if 
anything does not work, please report on ffmpeg-user.

Please remember to always use current git head if you 
are not a distributor yourself.
(This is valid for both FFmpeg and MPlayer and is of 
course relevant as soon as you ask for support on the 
mailing lists.)
