Well why don't you just try it out?

I believe it's the last version, I'm surprised it works at all. It's
not just mplayer, I don't think there are many systems which combine
dvdnav-like dvd processing together with encoding, as by definition all
the menu, advertisements, previews, pictures and other stuff on the dvd
is made for watching, not re-encoding. So most encoding software only
access main video stream directly without processing dvd navigation
structure.
I know that there are some dvds where you can't play stream directly
due to copy protection and such and which are playable with dvdnav only,
well I don't think you'll be able to rip/encode stream off such dvds
easily, because after all, such inconvenience WAS made in order to
complicate ripping such material off original dvd.
