I have tried DVBcut - but unfortunately, it does not recognise my
videos (although I can play them with mplayer - and mencoder has worked
in the past as well). When attempting to open the file, I get "Unknown
file type".

This is what I had tried in the past running Fedora - currently, I am
using Ubuntu 11.10 .
