That's not even 1MB. Since MPlayer keeps half of it for seeking
backwards, that means 512kB. There's a good chance not even a
single frame fits in.
You may want to reduce it if you don't have vast amounts of memory
in your PC, but I was thinking more of something like
-cache 102400 -cache-min 3
