[MEncoder-users] Little OT: using other then default decoder with mencoder

The ffmpeg h264 decoder has problems with BBC-HD files, filed an Issue 
and it was reproduced by the developers as a bug. In the meantime, as 
it's being fixed, I'm looking for a work-around.
With mplayer there's an option '-vc codec' to force another then the 
default decoder. Is it possible to use this in mencoder as well. Use 
vdpau, or CrystalHD even better ?
If yes how would a cli look like ?
