It seems you have somewhere in your mencoder config file in
$HOME/.mplayer faac enabled

Also, what is this? -o final.ogv

Do you think that by just changing extention to .ogv will force
mencoder not to output to an avi instead? You 'final.ogv' file will be
a plain avi file, just with the .ogv extention
