[MEncoder-users] Does encoding with flac work?

Couldn't open codec flac, br=224.
In tracing through the code, it appears that problem is that
sample_fmt != SAMPLE_FMT_S16 (as seen in flac_encode_init()). Matter
of fact, sample_fmt == SAMPLE_FMT_NONE.
It seems to come into existence initialized that way and then never
set to something else.
Something wrong with my set up, or am I missing something?
