This problem is more complicated than I thought. The problem didn't occur
using version 31103 when my source was the excerpt linked above, which is a
brief passage from a 108-minute capture. But it came back when I tried to
convert the entire capture. So I tried again with a clip cut off the
beginning instead of from the middle, and there were no problems with that
conversion either. So now I'm wondering if the ac3 file is incorrectly
determined to be mp3 because of the size or duration of the full length
file. Because I only have the problem with a large file, it's not practical
to make a sample available, but here is a zip archive containing the two
versions of the verbose command output. The conversion that created a usable
mpeg2 video file was performed with version 30860, and the conversion that
created the empty mpeg2 file was performed with version 31104. Thanks.
