I suppose Kaffeine dumps the TS-stream.

Just recorded a short piece of ITV3, and as far as I can see ProjectX 
tells me that there is a Teletext page 888, which is the default for 
subtitles, at

Teletext:
PID: 0x0946(eng_i100 eng_s888 )(#6)

This can be extracted to an srt, which mplayer can display if both 
video.mpg and video.srt exist in the same directory.
