Thanks for clearing up my math error.

In trying various combinations of expansion and cropping, I can find
no set that does not result in the extra lines of rendered data at the
top of the frame and/or the chroma artifacts when filmdint is used.
Take a peek at the sample videos I posted. There's something going
wrong there. And even using filmdint's better-than-normal-crop
built-in cropping doesn't help.
