Wow! Neither mencoder nor mplayer crashes anymore. Big thank you!

If the results are as good as mcdeint=2 is slow it was well worth
the trouble ;-)

Is libavcodec's snow used for reading movs? What is the
connection to mcdeint?

It doesn't segfault at once, but it does. Will play with the
options a bit more -- /have/ to pass "-strict -2" -- and then
proceed.
