[MEncoder-users] Dualcore and Quadcore performance?

I want to build a PC with Opensuse 11.1 especially for video-encoding.

How much will the performance increase with a dualcore and a quadcore cpu?

Which one should encode faster:

AMD Phenom II X4 920 4x 2.80GHz AM2+ 125W Stepping C2 Box or
INTEL Core 2 Duo E8400 2x 3,00GHz 6MB 333MHz boxed

How much does the mainboard influence encoding performance?

My choices would be:
ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe or
ASUS P5Q-E, P45
with CORSAIR 4GB CL5 TWIN2X4096-6400C5
