How to preserve avi tags in encoded file?

Before encoding mplayer -identify shows:

Clip info:
 Digitization Time: THU FEB 26 13:38:49 2009

ID_CLIP_INFO_NAME0=Digitization Time
ID_CLIP_INFO_VALUE0=THU FEB 26 13:38:49 2009

 Software: CanonMVI03
ID_CLIP_INFO_NAME1=Software
ID_CLIP_INFO_VALUE1=CanonMVI03

After mencoder this info is lost, mplayer -identify shows:

Clip info:
 Software: MEncoder SVN-r28450-4.3.3
ID_CLIP_INFO_NAME0=Software
ID_CLIP_INFO_VALUE0=MEncoder SVN-r28450-4.3.3
