[MEncoder-users] divx 2 mpeg2

Hello all

A friend of mine has a 25 min long divx video (for instance he don't
know the audio codec). He want I transcode
this video in such a way he can play it with the largest range dvd
player (even old one). What video codec can I use ? mpeg2 ?

If mpeg 2 is the best choice, is divx-->mpeg2 supported by mencoder ?
And which container can I use (perhaps it depends of the audio codec) ?
