I see.  Thanks for the info.  It appears there are some issues with A-V sync
on the source.  Of course it is easy to blame it on the source, so I will
try a few more things like upgrading mencoder, the audio driver etc. and
running it on another machine.

By the way, how does the audio and video gets out of sync?  Is this a problem
with the file?  Until now I thought this async problem happens because the
video data is not consumed (displayed) as fast as the audio.  However, with
no actual output (picture and sound) that explanation does not make sense to me.
