I went back to SVN-r28850-4.3.2, with that the problem does not occur.

I also observed that r28850 is faster than r29108 or r29170:
On a 10 seconds sample:
            r28850     r29108   r29170
1st pass      25s        44s      33s
2nd pass      45s       fails    fails
