- Where did you install that self-built x264 to?
- Could you check the content of the installed include file x264.h?
  There should be a "#define X264_BUILD" somewhere at the top.
  Check the value. I assume it's large enough.
- Do you happen to have a different x264.h on your system, from an
  older version of the library? E.g. in /usr/include/,
  /usr/local/include/, or whatever your Mac defaults to.

I believe you probably have current source already. It should be a
detection problem.
