The only thing I can add to this is that I've never gotten it to work 
either. The example given in the Mplayer/Mencoder documentation does not 
work. I've also asked on this list for a step by step "recipe" for 
getting this method to work and so far nothing has surfaced. Hope you 
have better luck.
