[MEncoder-users] Problem with embedding subtitles

I want to embed subtitles in video file to watch it on hardware device,
that doesn't support "soft"-subtitles. I try do it 3 days, but i never
got any result.
I'm using FreeBSD-7.0 and latest mplayer with mencoder from FreeBSD port
collection (MPlayer 1.0rc2-4.2.1)
I try use "o" option in expand filter config - it's doesn't change
anything...
Commands i use (now without expand filter config, else add "-vf
expand=::::1"):

[hint at hint ~/avi]% mencoder -o out.avi -oac lavc -ovc lavc -sub 2.srt
-ss 300 -endpos 20 -v 2.avi >> log.txt

Can anyone help me in my problem?
