[MEncoder-users] DTS Passthrough encoding. Lots of dropped frames.

I've got a good rip in vob format that has DTS audio information within it.
Encoding with selecting the AC3 information works fine, apart from a couple of
skipped frames once every now and then (often only just a couple right at the
beginning).
However, when I use "-aid 137" to select the DTS audio in mencoder, I get LOTS
of dropped frames. Like one or more each second. Sychronisation of the audio
stream falls down quickly and the video has a lot of very noticeable skips in
it.
I can get rid of the skipping (I think, it works on short sections) by
using "-mc 0" but that seems to be doubling the size of the file produced and
because of that I haven't actually encoded a full movie with it.
So anyone got ideas about why this is happening and how to stop it? E.g. is it
just that DTS is acting up, or should I use a different container format?
Ta.
