if libmp3lame is in your home directory, there's no way in hell mplayer could
have detected it, unless you specify its prefix... what does the below
command say?
mencoder -oac help
if you don't see mp3lame in there then it means you don't have support for MP3
and you need to compile mplayer again, but first compile LAME and install it
to a valid path, eg /usr/local
