Thanks, but I think I do need interlace-aware scaling because my source is 1440 
x 1080 (interlaced). In fact this was the feature that forced me out of FFmpeg 
into mencoder. I'm going from 30i to 30i. Nevertheless, I will google for your 
suggested options phase and tinterlace to see if they will help me.
