Hi,

I'm converting an avi file to a DVD mpeg. mencoder tutorial proposed to use vbitrate=5000. mencoder gives me the following information about my avi file

AVI file format detected.
[aviheader] Video stream found, -vid 0
[aviheader] Audio stream found, -aid 1
VIDEO:  [DX50]  512x384  24bpp  25.000 fps  750.0 kbps (91.5 kbyte/s)
[V] filefmt:3  fourcc:0x30355844  size:512x384  fps:25.00  ftime:=0.0400

I assume that my bitrate here is 750. Having this information does it make sens to set the vbitrate value to 5000, isn't anything above 750 a waste of space and computing time? I am not sure if these two bit rates mean the same or if I compare apples and pears - though both is called bit rate.

The complete command I use is

mencoder -oac lavc -ovc lavc -of mpeg -mpegopts format=dvd:tsaf -vf scale=720:576,harddup -srate 48000 -af lavcresample=48000 -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg2video:vrc_buf_size=1835:vrc_maxrate=9800:vbitrate=5000:keyint=15:vstrict=0:acodec=ac3:abitrate=192:aspect=16/9 -ofps 25 -o output.mpg input..avi

Thanks!
KH
