Hi,

as a workaround I installed the Win32::GuiTest package from CPAN (on the
sourceforge I found a newer version). It implements a SendKeys function and with
it I can send ^S, ^Q to any process. It is a little bit tricky because I have to
detect the window handle of the mencoder and I could not find a "nice" solution
for this. Now I use the FindWindowLike function which returns a list of windows
their title matching some pattern.
