Hi Laine,
  here are the complete command lines I used:

mencoder -o file.avi dvb://RAI1 -ovc lavc -oac lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4
mencoder -o file.avi prog.ts  -ovc lavc -oac lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4

Unfortunately, adding "-vf harddup" didn't do the trick for me. :-/
