Sorry to reply to myself, but does anyone know if its possible to encode 
to DVCPRO50 using mencoder?

It's the archiving format of choice for SD pictures in the BBC, so being 
able to convert from other formats to DVCPRO50 with mencoder would be 
very useful to me.
