[MEncoder-users] creating Windows-compatible (?) DivX files

Hi,
I'm using vdrconvert, a script collection that uses mencoder, to convert
MPEG-TS recordings (from VDR) to Divx. This should be supported just fine,
and MPlayer plays the DivX files just fine. The DivX player 6.7 and
my DVD player do not - the DivX player complains "this file contains a
track in an unknown format (code ""). You probably need to install a
DirectShow decoder to play this video format" or similar (roughly
translated from German - maybe the English version sounds different). The
DVD player which supposedly plays DivX files from CD-Rs does decode the
sound correctly but shows no picture (only the Pioneer logo -- it's a
DV-300 if that helps).
I tried
-ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4
-ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=msmpeg4
to no avail.
MPlayer says:
VIDEO: [FMP4] 768x576 24bpp 25.000 fps 889.0 kbps (108.5 kbyte/s)
Clip info:
Software: MEncoder 1.0rc1-4.1.0
==========================================================================
Opening audio decoder: [mp3lib] MPEG layer-2, layer-3
AUDIO: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 192.0 kbit/12.50% (ratio: 24000->192000)
Selected audio codec: [mp3] afm:mp3lib (mp3lib MPEG layer-2, layer-3)
==========================================================================
vo: X11 running at 1280x1024 with depth 16 and 16 bpp (":0.0" => local
display)
Opening video filter: [lavcdeint]
==========================================================================
Opening video decoder: [ffmpeg] FFmpeg's libavcodec codec family
Selected video codec: [ffodivx] vfm:ffmpeg (FFmpeg MPEG-4)
What's wrong, and how do I create files that can be played by the Windows
DivX player (I suspect the DVD player will play these right)?
I'm just trying mencoder 1.0rc2-4.1.0 (from
http://packman.links2linux.de/package/mplayer) but I doubt if this will help.
TIA!
