[MEncoder-users] Cannot "hardcode" subtitles

hi, i joined the list, because i have an avi file, an srt file, and i
want to create just 1 avi with the subtitles burned in it.

While i was googling i found this list, and hope you can help.

what i do is:

mencoder -ovc lavc -oac copy -sub subtitle.srt -o test.avi movie.avi

mencoder starts to work, but when i try test.avi i get the same as it
was movie.avi, that is, without the subtitles....

can anyone help me?

ps: by the way, i'm using
-MEncoder dev-SVN-rUNKNOWN-4.2.1
-Debian Lenny with a 2.6.21-2-k7 kernel
