[MEncoder-users] .mov files from .avi files

Hi,
I have lots of smallish .avi files.
I want to run Mcoder to output a small .mov file for each corresponding .avi 
file.
The quality is not important, I just wish to be able to get an idea as to 
what  the content is of each .avi, and be able to keep them all on my hard 
drive. 

What are the corresponding mencoder options I need. I have tried several, 
but Quicktime refuses to play any .mov file I create.
