Most DTV in the US has been HD for several years. All major national
networks produce all prime time scripted drama and almost all comedy in
HD. Almost all affiliates broadcast in HD. It's not an FCC requirement but
since stations are already spending millions of dollars to build brand new
digital transmission facilities, few feel any reason not to build them to
broadcast in HD immediately.

Some religious networks and a small low budget network called PAX that
features reruns of ancient shows don't have HD facilities or HD material
so their affiliates are broadcasting in SD, sometimes multicasting all
four timezone feeds on their station.
