In the US, over-the-air digital (ATSC) sometimes feels neglected and
insignificant. For several years now I notice most receivers use old,
poorly-performing 8VSB demodulators, which has a huge impact on
reception. There is still no PCI card that integrates the best demod,
which I interpret as a sign that nobody cares about such a tiny market.

I also see TVs and other receivers that have partial or barebones
implementations of PSIP, guides that just aren't very good, and a
general feeling that nobody cares.

What's bad about this is that the relative lack of success of ATSC
adoption is keeping analog signals on the air, which uses a significant
amount of bandwidth in order to serve a tiny and dwindling userbase.
