So maybe the question to be asked is what I should expect from xvid, lavc from
a mpeg-2 video recorder source. If I start with a 50Mb file that is shot
around the house, sometimes inside sometimes outside, what sort of file size
would you expect to see (guestimate), from my simple trials I have done, the
bitrate I am looking at is ~ 2000 and I will end up with a file size that is
approx 50% the size. the other bitrates do produce smaller files, but I get
lots of artifacts - especially around lots of solid colour like white walls etc
