Is it a recent commercial DVD? If so, you'll need to install some 
software to help MEncoder read the DVD correctly. I can recommend either 
AnyDVD ( http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html ) , or DVD 43 ( 
http://www.dvd43.com/ ). AnyDVD isn't free, but has a free trial 
available for download. DVD 43 is free, but isn't as likely as AnyDVD to 
be up to date.
