Thanks for the reply, unfortunately the current svn version crashes with the 
same result.


 >> mencoder -msglevel all=4 1.mov -o 1.flv -of lavf -oac lavc -ovc lavc
 >For encoding to mp3 you should use -oac mp3lame instead of lavf.

We used that some time ago and it gave us frequent crashes of mencoder, so we 
switched to the conversion by libavcodec.
