i4x4 is always useful (especially at high bitrate), and not very slow.

8x8dct is always useful (uinless you have some specific reason to avoid 
high profile), and not very slow.

Deadzone can be tweaked to match a specific video, but please don't change 
it by default. Plus, deadzone does nothing when combined with trellis and 
non-rdo.
