Thanks for your reply.

faac is detected without any problems. I can encode aac audio using -oac 
faac (instead of lavc), but so far  I havn't been able to encode a file 
that works on my ipod, but perhaps it might work with other options (I 
tried br=160:object=1:tns). I'll try format=mp4 as well...
