i recently tried to encode mpeg2 to uncompressed rgb within an avi container, so that no decoder would be required when importing into the video editor.

I tried variations on this:

 mencoder whatever.mpg -ovc raw -oac pcm -vf format=bgr24,flip -o raw.avi 

Which is rubbish, no good to man or beast.
i tried -ffourcc which does nothing 
 i tried messing with another fourcc changer, 
 i tried going raw unwrapped and muxing with ffmpeg but ffmpeg can't read the mencoder raw file. 

I tried different sources as well. it's source independent.
ffmpeg can do the task, minus the mirror flip.

anybody know how to do it with mencoder, or why it doesn't work?
