I know that page, thanks. As well as the MEncoder docs. Now go and take 
a bunch of DVD's and actually *apply* the receipt you quote... and see 
the results for yourself.

Googling for "dvd divx mencoder" leads to a bunch of tutorials... that 
all rely on the frameno technique, which - according to this list - is 
deprecated.
