Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately -aspect 16/9 does not fix the problem.
The problem in it self it not that the encoded video has the wrong aspect ratio.
 The problem is that the encoded video is corrupt and unrecognisable from the
original once the aspect ratio of the source material changes.
