I thought that this worked great, but the end of the video was totally 
munched.
I'm trying again tonight, adding "harddup" at the end of the filter chain, 
after reading something in the documentation about a/v muxing sync issues.
(it seemed like the audio was still going-- the video was garbage.)
we'll see if it works this time.
