i'm replying just for the inquisitive:

# mencoder -dvd-device /path/to/dvd/folder/ dvd://title -nosound -ovc 
copy -o /dev/null

will give you summry statement at the end of the process:

Video stream: 6020.430 kbit/s  (752553 B/s)  size: 153641385 bytes 
204.160 secs  5104 frames                          ^^^^^^^^^
