Thank you for responding -- that's great news! What was fixed?

I've been running Marillat's Debian packages, most recently 1.0pre8-4.1.2 dated
2 Aug 2006. The good news is that it looks like I can now encode full-size
(640x480) tv to h264 (using lavc) on the fly without running out of cpu power.
