Er... should that be necessary? On my system, the current time and the
current frame number are displayed in MPlayer's status line (which
certainly does not require '-v')... and which, along with about six
other lines in the same block, is missing from the output he posted.

Specifically, where he has:

> Audio: no sound
> Starting playback...
> BENCHMARKs: VC: 3.772s VO: 0.035s A: 0.000s Sys: 1.623s = 5.430s

I have:

> Audio: no sound
> Starting playback...
> VDec: vo config request - 320 x 240 (preferred colorspace: Planar YV12)
> VDec: using Planar YV12 as output csp (no 0)

The important line, of course, is the one beginning with "V:". It will
appear numerous times (possibly as much as once per tenth of a second -
or even once per frame, I've never checked) in the redirected output,
but the final instance is the only one of any significance here.

The above output is with the exact same command line he gave, except for
the different filename (although this was, still, with an WMV file). The
only remaining possible differences I can think of are in our MPlayer
versions and our config files... and I can't think how either of those
would change whether or not the status line gets printed.

side of it.
