I originally sent this message to mplayer-users, but
realized it might be more applicable here:

Hello, and thanks for your help in advance.

I'm attempting to use mencoder to convert movie files
I have on my computer to a format that can run on my
Video iPod. I am using Mac OS X 10.3, and have
installed Xcode 1.5.

I've been able to build mplayer using the MPlayer
v1.0pre7try2 source, available on the web site.
However, I don't seem to have installed the
libavformat containers. When I run mencoder -of help,
I get the following output:

MEncoder 1.0pre7try2-3.3 (C) 2000-2005 MPlayer Team
AltiVec found
CPU: PowerPC
File not found: 'frameno.avi'
Failed to open frameno.avi

Available output formats:
   avi - Microsoft Audio/Video Interleaved
mpeg - MPEG-1/2 system stream format
rawvideo - (video only, one stream only) raw
stream, no muxing

Exiting... (error parsing cmdline)

While these errors bothered me, I went ahead and tried
to run the following command:

mencoder movie.avi -o movie.mp4 -of lavf -oac mp3lame
-ovc lavc. The resulting video does not seem to play.

Can anyone here help me figure out what I am doing
incorrectly?

Thanks again,
Anthony Frasso
